In October, Sam Harris–author, provocateur and neuroscientist–spoke at Beyond Belief: Candles in the Dark, an annual event sponsored by the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. This year participants were asked to propose a “Candle”—a potential solution to a problem that they have identified in their area of expertise. Sam Harris delivered a talk on the relationship between science and morality–and specifically the erroneous idea that science is divorced from morality–called “Can We Ever Be Right About Right and Wrong?” Both parts of the talk are below (roughly 10 minutes each).
