I worked with angel investors for several years and managed to write down most of the books they used for building and managing their businesses. One book that was on the top of everyone’s lists was the Innovator’s Dilemma by Clayton Christensen. I highly recommend reading about Christensen’s concept of disruptive technology. In the book he also provides insights on industries that experienced disruptive technologies (think buggy whip vs automobiles). Value investors can learn a lot from the book, especially those wanting to invest in companies with “moats” or durable competitive advantages- you want to make sure your investments aren’t facing immediate disruptive technologies or forces.
